Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
This policy applies to every visitor of M3U8Lab. We keep it plain: what we can see, what we deliberately avoid, and where your data eventually goes. Please take two minutes to read through it before using the site.
1. What Information We Collect
Only two limited kinds of data are recorded as you browse:
- Basic server-side access logs covering IP address, browser and OS type, request time — used solely to keep the site available and secure
- Anonymous aggregate analytics from Umami, summarising page views, rough origin and device type — no personally identifiable fields
M3U8Lab requires no account and never asks for names, ID numbers or any personal identity material.
2. Where Video Data Goes
This is our core promise: all video processing happens inside your own browser.
- Playback and MP4 conversion data flows peer-to-peer between your device and the video source server — never through ours
- Decoding and remuxing are done by an in-browser WebAssembly module; our servers neither participate nor see any result
- The m3u8 URL you enter lives only in the current page memory and disappears when you close the tab — we retain nothing
3. Cookies and Local Storage
We do not use cookies to record or analyse your viewing behaviour. We only use browser local storage where necessary to remember interface settings like language preference — that data lives on your device, never touches our servers, and can be cleared at any time in your browser settings without affecting functionality.
4. Third-Party Services and Advertising
To cover operating costs, external services we rely on follow their own terms:
- Umami open-source analytics (anonymous aggregated traffic, no cross-site tracking)
- Tencent Cloud TCPlayer SDK (third-party component required for playback)
Google AdSense and DoubleClick Cookies: We plan to use Google AdSense as our advertising service provider. Google may use cookies and web beacons to serve ads related to M3U8Lab's content. The DoubleClick DART cookie lets Google show you more relevant ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can learn more by visiting the Google Ads Policy Centre, or opt out of personalised advertising at Ads Settings. You can also opt out of third-party network interest-based advertising through the Network Advertising Initiative or the Digital Advertising Alliance.
5. Information Security
We hold almost none of your data, so the risk surface is naturally small. Still, we enable HTTPS encryption across the site and keep dependencies up to date. No transmission over the internet is 100% secure, so please hold the same reasonable expectations you do for any online service.
